Nutrition, diet, health, all common words that mean different things to different people. Diets are part of life. Magazines and newspapers are full of diet plans and how to lose weight easily. Politicians talk about the obesity problems and experts warn of the health risks of being overweight.
Very rarely is nutrition mentioned. Doctors prescribe medication for fat people - drugs to prevent the intestines absorbing fat or to mask hunger pains. Do we know what other effects they have? Do they also stop nutrients being absorbed? More drastically operations such as elastic bands to the stomach are performed to reduce food consumption (including also nutrient consumption).
None of these are the real answer. The real answer is a healthy and varied nutritious diet which, with a basic knowledge of nutrtition, is possible for everyone. Which is the purpose of The Nutrition Diet Club.
The first thing to know is that 'YOUR BODY NEEDS FOOD'. That is why dieting and depriving yourself of food won't work. Your body needs food but it needs the right foods. Many illnesses of aging from cancer to heart disease and dementia are linked to vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
That is why your body needs food - nutrient rich foods full of vitamins and minerals to provide the nutrients that keep your body functioning properly now and in the long term. Nutrition is even more important in our modern stressful lives. Every part of your body needs nutrients for cells, organs, bones, blood, eyes, skin, heart, immune system, etc. Not just to maintain and keep healthy but also for long term health. If we can maintain and repair the cells properly the body will repair itself and recover from many problems. Because the body is a collection of cells it is the cells that make the body the complete functioning being that it is. If we don't give the cells what they need, i.e. correct nutrition, and subject them to what they don't want, i.e. junk food, toxins, etc, the body will break down.
So we need to know a little about the basics of nutrition. How it works, why we need it, what interfers with nutrition, etc.
Don't be put off; it is a lot simpler than you think and it is interesting when you get into it all. Use the information to your advantage and become better informed to make your own choices and decisions about your diet, health and lifestyle. It is your life and you deserve a long healthy life.
